What a glorious day today is!
I absolutely adore this Earth and everything in it. I adore the trees that provide us with oxygen, the clouds that hold the rain that waters the plants to grow and feed me (yes, that was a vegetarian reference). Speaking about plants, I am fascinated by the variety of food available for us—food that grows from the dirt itself.
I profoundly respect the oceans and mountains that are so vast and glorious that they could kill us in an instant, yet lead us to have overwhelming moments of AWE. The creatures fascinate me. The rodents and reptiles that live in the desert and can go months without a drop of water, breathing in the sand itself.
The glaciers blow my mind. The color, or lack there of. The white, the ice blue. The animals that live on ICE.
I once climbed to the peak of the Salkantay mountain in Peru and was gripped by what I experienced. Not only was the view something to literally die for, but the birds flying in that altitude left me in wonder. The sound of their wings ripping through the air sounded exactly like a jet with all its engines soaring full speed. I couldn’t believe the birds’ flying in the air at that speed and height made that noise. I kept looking around for an airplane. Once I realized those tiny yet intricate little creatures were responsible for it, I sat down on the nearest rock and cried.
I am in awe of the sea creatures—created in such fashion that scientists spend their entire lives trying to study and understand them. Have you ever thought about the millions of different animals? Each of them making their own sound. I am fascinated by the stars, that illuminate the sky, so many that we couldn’t possibly count each one, surprising us every once in a while by deciding to shoot across the atmosphere.
I can go on for days writing about all the things that fascinate me in this world—from a bee resting on a flower, to a white thunder of water falling off the side of a mountain. It’s all majestic, glorious, unbelievable.
But more awe-inspiring than all of those is the Creator of it all. His detail, His originality, His beauty, His depth. The thought of Him in all His glory brings me to tears over and over again.
Take a second to meditate on His glory shone through His creation.
Let yourself feel small…really small.
Meditate on these:
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths.
Psalm 24:1-2
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being. He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked. Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds, kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children. Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones—the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!
